4. Our handmade marmalades
All the jams you will find in the shop of El Cortijuelo de San Benito come from small artisans who make their products in a handmade way and with high quality ingredients.
Among the producers of artisan jams we have selected the company from Elasun, located in Aragon.
a) Elasun
First of all, we have the Elasun artisan jam company. A company that makes jams with great care and affection.
Here is a video of this company.
5. Difference between jellies, jams and marmalades
Similarly, they are all preserved fruit or vegetables. However, theoretically they differ in the following aspects.
- Jelly: Made only with fruit juice and sugar.
- Jams or antonomasia preserves: Where the whole or cut fruit is preserved with sugar.
- Marmalades: In these preserves, the fruit is discarded and is also preserved in sugar.
However, these are theoretical definitions, and in reality industries and small artisans use these names interchangeably. Therefore, it is best to look at the ingredients to see how much sugar the product contains.
5. Where to buy quality marmalade?
There is also a wide variety of places on the market where you can buy jams. However, it is not easy to find quality jams, as most of them are made of gelatine. They are also often full of flavourings and contain very little fruit. Therefore, we are going to recommend the places where you can find them:
- El Cortijuelo San Benito: In our shop in Las Rozas de Madrid we have selected the best jams on the market. In addition, all of them have a large amount of fruit, around 70 percent by mass. They are also free of colourings and preservatives. Therefore, all of them are made with quality ingredients.
- Gourmet stores: In any gourmet shop you should also be able to find quality jams.
However, in large supermarkets, unfortunately, they are low quality jams with little fruit and a lot of gelatine. In short, if you want a quality jam, you will find it in gourmet shops.
7. Frequently asked questions
