1. Honey to make homemade creams

The men of antiquity already knew the healing effects of honey. Thus, Hippocrates used honey for the treatment of different diseases. Another example of this was the Arab doctor Avicenna, who advised as a delicacy nuts and honey, in order to maintain the youth of our body. Also legendary are the baths with donkey milk and honey given by the last queen of Ancient Egypt, Cleopatra.

One of the first natural products that have been used in antiquity and are still used today in the production of natural cosmetics products. The honey, as we have seen in previous articles, contributes numerous benefits for the health, by its contribution of antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and enzymes. Its high concentration of sugars, its low pH and its enzymes that turns into oxygenated water, give to the honey disinfectant properties.

The honey applied on our skin brings us the following benefits: First, the honey has anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and bactericidal properties for its high concentration of sugars, for its low pH and for its enzymes that form peroxides on contact with water. Three factors very unfavorable for any organism Second, this high concentration of sugars also gives it moisturizing and hygroscopic properties, ie absorbs the water around it, creating a film on wounds and burns free of microorganism and moisture ideal for healing the skin. Third, honey hydrates the skin, preventing its dryness, the formation of scales. Finally, it contains antioxidants and minerals that help keep the skin healthier and stronger.

Lighter honeys such as orange blossom, lavender, rosemary and thyme are richer in antioxidants and darker honeys such as heather, oak and forest are rich in minerals.

For these reasons, honey is so well known in the world of natural cosmetics. In addition, if we join with other products of the beehive, such as royal jelly, propolis and wax, we can make creams, soaps, shampoos ideal for caring for our skin. Here are  some recipes for you to make by yourself.
