Beekeeping, nature care and self-consumption among other reasons have attracted numerous celebrities and intellectuals in the past. As a result, they got to know this beautiful activity and started their own beehives. Among the most famous beekeepers are the following:

a) Henry Fonda

Henry Fonda is an American actor who was born in 1905 in Nebraska in California. He is a winner of Golden Globes, Oscar, BAFTA throughout his career.

However, before becoming an actor, he was a beekeeper. He had his beehives placed all over the citrus groves of California. Therefore, among different honeys he also extracted the delicious orange blossom honey.

He also has a very famous scene in the film “Swarm” where he is seen with two other actors in a hive of African bees, which are very dangerous.

b) Leo Tolstoy

Russian writer born in 1828 in Tula. Among his most outstanding works are War and Peace and Anna Karenina, which are considered the pinnacle of Russian realism. He also received numerous literary awards and was nominated several times for the Nobel Peace Prize, although he never won it.

Leo Tolstoy, a prominent literary figure with works such as Peace and War, also took up beekeeping as a hobby. He made this hobby known twice in his work and shared his experiences and his honey production with friends and family.

His great love for bees is fully documented in his wife’s diary, where she clearly explains her husband’s great love for beekeeping.

c) Maria von Trapp

Famous singer of the Trapp family. Her story, about her escape from Nazism, was the basis for the musical “The sound of music”.

She moved to Vermont in the USA, where she also became a beekeeper, encouraged by her husband.

d) Scherlock Holmes

The writer Conan Doyle, who created the Scherlock Holmes thriller novels, also gave the famous detective his spare time as a beekeeper.

e) Sylvia Plath

Sylvia Plath is an American writer and poet who was born in 1932 in Boston.

She also had a great fondness for beekeeping.

a) Scarlett Johansson

Scarlett Johansson, a well-known actress in numerous roles, was born in New York City. She is famous for her performances in the films “Black Widow”, “The Advengers” and many other films.

Her love for bees and honey was sparked by a gift from Samuel L Jackson in 2009. Jackson gave her a beehive as a gift and since then she has continued her love of beekeeping and drinking honey from her own hives.

b) Martha Stewart

Martha Stewart is a famous US broadcaster and businesswoman who loves nature and is also dedicated to the care of bees.

c) Morgan Freeman

Morgan Freeman, a famous actor who has starred in blockbuster action movies such as Batman, Zamunda and many more, is also a beekeeper, and therefore, he is a man who loves to collect honey from his beehives. He is also a man who supports many projects that aim to protect nature.

d) Peter Fonda

Another famous actor committed to beekeeping is Peter Fonda. He was also named beekeeper of the year by the Florida Beekeeping Association in the United States.

e) Leonardo Dicaprio

We also have Leonardo Dicaprio, a famous actor who has performed in films such as; Catch Me If You Can, The Revenant, The Wolf of Wall Street, etc.

It seems that beekeeping takes him away from his stress and other problems and that he wants to drink his own honey.

f) Marta Kearny

Dublin-born Marta Kearny is a famous presenter for the BBC and Radio 4. She is also very committed to Suffolk House.

Her love of beekeeping came when some beekeeping friends gave her a tablecloth decorated with beekeeping motifs, as well as jars of honey and an empty hive without bees for the whole team at her wedding in 2001. It was a big surprise at first, but she thought it was a very good idea to produce her own honey.
